About the club

Red Kite TREC Group (RKTG) was formed in 2010 to promote and develop the equestrian sport of TREC in South Wales. Our membership area reaches from St. Davids in the far west of Pembrokeshire, through Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire to Gower, Bridgend and Cardiff in the East.

We are one of 15 TREC Clubs throughout the country that are affiliated to TREC GB, which run competitions and affiliated training events for members and non-members alike.

We also hold unmounted training, social events and riding holidays for our members to enjoy. RKTG also organises club teams and we normally have TREC teams at the TREC Championships, Endurance and My Quest Teams.

RKTG members form the backbone of the Welsh TREC Team at the National TREC GB Championships and have a current member in the Senior International Squad.

We also have members who are TREC GB Qualified Judges, International Judges, Traceurs (the person who devises the orienteering route) and Technical Delegates (TDs) (who represent TREC GB and oversee a competition).

Red Kite TREC Group members also have input to TREC GB and the development of the sport via our Club Representative and participation in National Working Groups. This allows two-way communication and ensures that Club views are heard at Board / Trustee level.

TREC is a very friendly sport and the social and tourism aspects of what we do are very important.

COMPETITIONS

Why try TREC?

It is the best way of having fun with friends and your horse whatever your skill level. Although we aim to develop your skills and confidence to ride in all situations, there is a level to suit everyone. Whether this is an obstacle course in an arena, hacking out in company, developing your navigation skills or riding in the un-spoiled countryside – the choice is yours.

TREC is open to riders of all ages; anyone can compete individually from age 14 – or under 14 if part of a pair with another rider aged 18 or over.

You can ride as an individual or as a pair with another horse and rider – which is a great way of gaining confidence when you try something new.

Any horse can be suitable – from native ponies to ex-racers and trotters, eventers to a summer activity for hunt horses – all can do TREC. There is no limit as long as the horse and rider suit each other.

At a competition, the fun goes on all day (or the whole weekend), you have many opportunities to do well and a good level of all-round performance is rewarded.

Finally, for those who want to go further, you can aim for the National Wales Team or the Junior or Senior International Teams and have the opportunity to compete abroad representing our country.

Committee

The Committee is a group of members who work together to run the Club and all the events. Between us, we have a range of TREC knowledge and skills – from competing to organising and general support. We are all different, however we share a love of the sport of TREC.

But events do not run without volunteers so if you are able to help the club in any way shape or form, be it offering a venue, running or helping at a competition, or offering some form sponsorship then we would love to hear from you!

If you have any questions relating to Red Kite TREC Group, TREC GB, TREC in general or would like to volunteer, please contact our Club Rep – or any member of our committee who will be pleased to help.
