Judges Training Day

On the first sunny Spring Saturday of the year, we were enthusiastically welcomed to the TREC GB judges training day by Club Secretary Chis Paine. Chris and her team, Mary and Dani and their horses provided a fun, hands-on training day to give competitors and judges alike, an up to date review of the current judging methods for the three phases of the sport.
The morning session was held in a fabulous stone barn space, kitted out with a projector and screen and of course the essential technology of the tea urn. After the informative presentations and discussions we hurtled towards our delicious lunch of home made soup.
After refuelling, we headed out to the bright sunshine and into the familiar TREC territory of the arena. We were met with a host of obstacles and two four legged furry friends Toby and Freddy, one lead and one ridden. We watched critically as the obstacles were demonstrated and sought to find fault with sometimes faultless performances - or were they? We slowly became familiar with the nuances, as we discussed our scoring with the more experienced judges on the course. It was a super introduction to the new scoring layout which was well received by the group. It was a great foundation to build on; time to do some homework with our new 8th edition TREC rule book. We all looked forward to the Summer series to put our new found skills and knowledge into practice. Thank you once more to our fabulous trainers and to all our members who attended the course and made it another special TREC day.
