Following the disappointing cancellation of the November competition and a severe storm the week before, the club were delighted to welcome members to the arena competition at Pibwrlywd on a dry and calm day. Again the event was fully subscribed and comprised regular and newer members, some of whom had been without electricity or suffered damage in the storm, so we were very happy to see them safe and well.
There was plenty of Christmas cheer with humans in their best Christmas hats and jumpers, and horses sporting lots of tinsel, reindeer horns and even a red nose for Jake (or Rudolph). Mince pies, chocolates and carrots were handed out by the helpful Elf.
The courses rode (or ran) well with imaginative positioning of the obstacles within the area resulting in plenty of challenges for horse and rider. Related distances being a particular feature of the earlier classes; the ability to perform halt/ walk to canter being useful.
A thoroughly enjoyable, friendly and supportive day with everyone gaining from the experience and hopefully getting some worthwhile practice ahead of the full summer TRECs.
Big thanks go to the competitors, organisers and all the volunteers. Particularly Cath Cromarty from the TRAC TREC club who travelled some distance to serve as TREC GB Official so we could run the event – much appreciated Cath.
